The RICS: What's going on ?

The RICS

The management of the RICS and the relationship that the professional body has with the members goes from bad to worse. It’s as if they are trying to pick a fight with the membership on whom they depend for their very survival. In the recent elections to the RICS Governing Council the overall voter turnout was 6.53%. That’s slightly less than the turnout for the Monster Raving Loony Party at a parliamentary election. Subscriptions are to increase in 2025 with Fellows paying an eye watering £681 pa, over £100 more than an associate. Ever wondered why it is that Fellows pay more? I presume the RICS thinking is that Fellows are probably earning a few bob so we’ll fleece a bit more out of them.

It has been announced that the 50% concession for those Chartered Surveyors who work part-time is to be scrapped on the grounds that the members asked for it. Just how many part-time concessions does the RICS hand out? I suspect not many. As has been pointed out a significant percentage of part-timers will be members with young families looking for a work/life balance, wouldn’t you have thought someone would have considered this ? In the words of Homer Simpson: Doh, it just gets worse and worse!

I have been a member of the RICS for 52 years but for how much longer ?
